A short Alitalia flight from Milan to Rome reviewed,
Our truffle adventure was sadly over and it was time to head home the same way that we had come. The drive from Piedmont, Italy to Zurich took about six hours, and after stuffing our faces at the Christmas Market in Zurich that evening, we spent the night once again at the Marriott. We were up bright and early the next day, and the first leg of our journey home was an uneventful flight from Zurich to London.
I flew to Rome with Alitalia recently, via Milan. This looks at the segment from London City Airport to Milan.
The Piedmont region is located in Northwest Italy and is well-known for several things. Perhaps most famously is its wines, and in particular is the home of the Nebbiolo grape that is used to make Barolo and Barbaresco wines. Piedmont is also well-known for hazelnuts, and you can even visit the Ferrero Rocher chocolate factory in the city of Alba. But as much as I like wine and Nutella, I was here for one thing and one thing only, the TRUFFLES.
The Private Jet Terminal can now be used by scheduled passengers at London City Airport, for a fee. It’s very private.
Cathay Pacific’s First Class is one of the most desirable products out there today, and It’s also one of the hardest to book with miles, since award availability for these seats typically opens up just a week or two prior to departure. So up to this point, my only experience with Cathay Pacific First Class had been over two years ago. Luckily, this trip had come together last-minute anyways, and I ultimately had my pick of three out of the four daily flights that Cathay Pacific operates between Hong Kong and New York.
My review of Singapore Airlines’ new First Class seat on a recent flight from San Francisco to Hong Kong.
By late morning we were already on the road for the 3-hour road trip from Zurich to Milan. Apparently we had arrived along with the first snowstorm of the season, and driving along the lakes and snow-capped mountains was simply intoxicating. Between the natural landscape and the fun we had observing the differences in architecture of the buildings as we headed south into Italy, we had enough entertainment to make the time fly by.
With under 24 total hours in Zurich spread across two separate visits, we had our work cut out for us if we were going to take full advantage of being in the land of cheese. In fact, I was traveling with two people who’s favorite food is cheese, and they couldn’t stop drooling at the prospect of stuffing their faces with some of Switzerland’s finest.
Even though we’d be flying in and out of Zurich, we actually weren’t planning to spend much time there. So really we just needed an economical place to crash the night that we arrived, and the night prior to our return, and for both of those nights we settled on the Zurich Marriott.
Most people think that there is only one lounge at London City – that run by BA for their transatlantic services. Turns out there is another….
